A foremost advocate of Oduduwa republic, Sunday Adeyemo, popular known Sunday Igboho, has beseeched Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to forgive him over his recent outburst.
Sunday Igboho had in recent weeks renewed his agitation and struggle for the actualisation of Oduduwa republic amid the tension in the south west due to the conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and local farmers.
Ekohotblog had reported how Igboho during a virtual conference on Tuesday lampooned the revered monarch, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Bola Tinubu and other prominent personalities in the south west.
He called them Fulani slaves, adding that they refused to support his cause because they have been compromised and that the monarch received millions of dollars from President Muhammadu Buhari.
Igboho was castigated for his outburst with many saying his actions and remarks are taboo and they amount to desecration of the sacred throne which the monarch occupies.
But in a fit of contrition, the fearsome freedom fighter has eaten the humble pie, he’s now taken back his words and begged the renowned monarch for forgiveness for the vitriolic remarks he directed at him.
In a video on Wednesday evening, Sunday Igboho said he got carried away and his emotions got the better of him, adding that he’s deeply worried by the manner the Fulani issue is being handled.
He disclosed that he had spoken with the monarch on phone and had begged him for forgiveness.
“I have called our father, the Ooni of Ife and I have apologised to him. When I said those things, I was carried away by my emotions. The killing of my people by Fulani herdsmen and the way our fathers in Yoruba land are handling the issue is giving me great concern.
“I am a Yoruba man and I know it is not in our culture to insult the elders. I have called the Kabiyesi and I have apologised to him. You can call him to confirm.
“Once again, I want to beg our royal father to forgive me. It was a slip of tongue,” Sunday Igboho said.
