EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigerian Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, recently shared a surprising revelation about his early career, recalling an incident where his father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, detained him, event organizers, and fans.
Speaking on his Channel 4 debut appearance on The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan, Davido explained that his father’s disapproval of his decision to pursue music led to the dramatic incident.
Davido, known for his hit song “Omo Baba Olowo,” explained that his family prioritized education and business, leading to a conflict when he chose to pursue a career in music. Recounting the incident, he described how his father, upon learning that Davido had skipped school to perform at an event, took drastic measures to assert his disapproval.
“I come from a family where it’s like, education, education, business… Overtime [my decision to do music] was like a beef,” Davido shared candidly during the interview. “Any show he [my dad] hears I’m performing at, he sends the police. He arrests the fans, promoters. He has a camera watching where I go to.”
The incident Davido described happened early in his career, showcasing the challenging journey he had to navigate while pursuing his passion for music.
Despite his father’s reservations, Davido’s determination to make his mark in the music industry prevailed, leading him to become one of the most prominent figures in Afrobeats.
During his appearance on The Lateish Show, Davido took the opportunity to showcase his talent, performing his popular hit song ‘Unavailable’ to the delight of the audience.
