My Life Under Serious Threats – Rivers State Collation Officer Raises Alarm

  • Rivers State presidential election results adjourned by State collation officer, Prof. Charles Adias.

  • The information was announced to the press on Tuesday morning at the State Collation Centre in Port Harcourt.

  • This comes in response to allegations by the INEC staff of being threatened by unknown party officials.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the collation of the presidential election results in Rivers State has been adjourned by the state collation officer, Prof Charles Adias, due to alleged threats to his life by unknown party supporters.

Adias announced the adjournment on Tuesday morning while addressing journalists at the State Collation Centre in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

According to reports, the Commissioner of Police of the Presidential Election in Rivers, Aderemi Adeoye, urged Adias to reveal the identity of those threatening his life. However, the collation officer insisted that he will not proceed until the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner addressed some of the issues regarding the faulty Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the threats made against him.

Prior to the announcement, results from 21 local government areas had been collated, with only two local government areas – Obio-Akpor and Degema – remaining pending.

The adjournment has caused tension and anxiety among the residents of the state, as the delay in the collation of the results could potentially affect the outcome of the election. The electoral commission has been urged to address the situation and ensure that the collation process is completed without further delays or incidents.

The presidential election in Rivers State was keenly contested by the major political parties, with both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vying for victory. The election was conducted on Saturday, February 23, with a large turnout of voters recorded in various parts of the state.

The adjournment of the collation process in Rivers State adds to the growing concerns over the conduct of the election in some parts of the country, with reports of violence, vote-buying, and other electoral malpractices recorded in some states.
