The statement stated that the Twitter account was hacked by “some unscrupulous elements.”
The NIDCOM spokesperson consequently called on the public to disregard any message from the account.
“This is to inform members of the public that the Twitter Account of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has been hacked by some unscrupulous elements,” the statement reads.
“Please kindly disregard any message from the account, as the obvious aim of the hackers is to spread falsehood and fake news in the name of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to ignore any message from the twitter handle Abike Dabiri-Erewa (@abikedabiri) until normalcy is hopefully restored.”
The alleged hacker renamed the account from “Abike Dabiri-Erewa” to “CV” alongside an Arabic inscription.
However, a follow-up check by Eko Hot Blog showed that the “Abike Dabiri-Erewa” display name had returned to the account.
