Nadal Downs Thiem To Win 12th French Open Title
Spanish Tennis sensation, Rafael Nadal, won his 12th French Open title on Sunday after defeating Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Winning the 18th career Grand Slam singles trophy of his career, the World No. 2, also widely regarded as the King of Clay, was in his elements.
Thiem, playing in his second ever Grand Slam final, gave a good account of himself, becoming the first player to win a set against the Spaniard in a French Open final since 2014.
But it was not enough to topple Nadal, who boasts of 12 French Open, 2 Wimbledon, 3 US Open and 1 Australian Open titles. With just two titles behind Federer now, the odds look very bright for Nadal with a few more grand slam titles to fight for yet even this year.
