The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied approving a herbal tea that allegedly claims smoking can be healthy when used alongside the product.
In a statement by NAFDAC’s Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola, the agency dismissed the claims circulating on social media as false and misleading. It clarified that the product, Lung Detox Tea or Lungitox (Smokers Pride), is not registered with the agency.
The agency revealed that an application to register the product was rejected because of its unproven and harmful claim that smoking could be made “healthy.”
NAFDAC emphasized that it upholds strict scientific standards and would never allow the production or sale of such products.
The agency also warned manufacturers of herbal products against making unverified health claims without scientific evidence from clinical trials. NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety.
The public was urged to ignore the misleading video and report suspicious products or claims through NAFDAC’s official channels.
