Eko Hot Blog reports that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cracked down on drug hawkers operating in the Apapa area of Lagos State.
The agency disclosed the operation in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday.
NAFDAC revealed that the operation, which was carried out by its Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, was aimed at combating the distribution and sale of unauthorised pharmaceuticals.
The agency also stated that it apprehended “numerous hawkers” during the operation.
The operation was said to have resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs, including aphrodisiacs, narcotic substances (including tramadol), antibiotics, and over-the-counter medications, worth around ₦50 million.
“NAFDAC’s Investigation & Enforcement Directorate recently conducted a targeted raid on drug hawkers operating in the Apapa area and its surroundings as part of its ongoing efforts to combat the distribution and sale of unauthorised pharmaceuticals,” the statement reads.
“Numerous hawkers were apprehended during the operation, and a wide range of illicit drugs were confiscated, including aphrodisiacs, narcotic substances (including tramadol), antibiotics, and over-the-counter medications.
“The combined street value of the seized drugs amounts to approximately Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000.00).”
NAFDAC added that the individuals arrested will be prosecuted accordingly, noting that the confiscated drugs are slated for destruction.
