Eko Hot Blog reports two Osogbo residents, Akinniyi Temitope (41) and Abiodun Oluwakemi (31), have been brought before a Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, for alleged human trafficking.
The charges reveal that they conspired to transport a 20-year-old, Kehinde Opeyemi, from Osogbo to Libya for exploitative labor.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) brought the charges against the defendants, accusing them of committing the offenses within the Osogbo metropolis in November 2023.
According to the charge sheet signed by prosecuting counsel Jude Ajaegbu and Umar Hammanjuda, the offenses contravene Section 26 (2) of the Trafficking in Person (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2015, as well as Section 27 of Trafficking in Person (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2015.
The charges detail that Abiodun Babalola Oluwakemi, 31, conspired with Akinniyi Temitope Latifat, 41, to procure and recruit Kehinde Mariam Opeyemi, 20, for exploitative labor in Libya.
Additionally, Akinniyi Temitope Latifa, 41, is accused of facilitating the illegal entry of Kehinde Mariam to Libya for forced labor.
The defendants pleaded not guilty after the charge sheets were read during the court proceedings.
The defense counsel, Taiwo Awokunle, subsequently moved a formal bail application for his clients, seeking their admission to bail in liberal terms.
In response, Justice Mashkur Salisu granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court adjourned the matter to February 12 for further proceedings.
