Two people lost their lives on Sunday in Obi Local Government Area following a confrontation between an army officer and a police special constable from the Jenkwe Division, sparked by an investigation into a motorcycle theft at Agyaragu Market.
According to a statement by DSP Ramhan Nansel, Police Relations Officer in the state, a suspect was apprehended in connection to the theft and was being transported to the police station by a police officer and a special constable when a soldier, reportedly on leave from Borno State, intervened.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the soldier attempted to disrupt the arrest, assaulting the police officers in the process. He brandished a knife, injuring the police special constable.
In what police describe as an act of self-defense, the soldier was overpowered, and his knife was reportedly used against him, resulting in injuries to both men.
The soldier was later confirmed dead from his wounds.
Following the incident, a group of local youths mobilized and attacked the police station, setting it ablaze. Police forces responded, and three individuals among the attackers were reportedly injured in the clash, with one later succumbing to his injuries.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Nadada, promptly visited the scene along with personnel from Operation Whirl Stroke, the 177 Guards Battalion, and the 22 Quick Response Unit. He ordered the deployment of a Police Mobile Force unit, Counter Terrorist Unit, and Tactical teams to restore peace.
Authorities report that calm has been restored in the area as investigations continue, with the Commissioner of Police directing a manhunt for those involved in the attack.
