NASS Member Advocates Better Service To Voters
Rep. Samuel Onuigbo (APC-Abia) has urged elected public servants not to take voters for granted but to offer qualitative service as payback for their votes.
Onuigbo, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, said that Nigeria would only be transformed if elected leaders learn to serve those who elected them.
He said: “When you run for election and if you were freely elected; the people, the voters freely expressed their mandate and supported you, do not take it from granted.”
He said that in his Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, there are 32 electoral wards, which spread across three Local Government Areas including the state capital.
The lawmaker added that during Election Day it would be impossible to move round those wards and hold a gun to everybody’s head compelling them to vote for his candidacy.

He stated that once the people freely made their choice, it behoved on the elected to pay the voters back through service.
“I went to over 285 homes for consultations long before I got the nomination of my party. I told my people that I will like to represent them based on Effectiveness, Accessibility and Responsiveness (EAR).
“I consulted for almost one year before the primaries elections, I was able to explain to them, my vision and what I intend doing before they repose their trust in me,” he said.
The lawmaker stated that this had propelled him to facilitate projects such as electricity by providing transformers, street lights and electric poles to communities hitherto lacking such facilities.
Others include; massive erosion control works at Amankwo Ezeleke -Amachara in Umuahia South LGA and Okwe-Obuohia Road in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State through the Ecological Fund Office.
