NASU, SSANU Begin Protest Today

Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) will commence a three-day protest today.

A statement by the General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, and president of SSANU, Mohammed Ibrahim on Friday, said, the federal government failed to address any of the agreements it signed with the union on October 20, 2020.

While speaking with PUNCH on Monday, Ibrahim, maintained that the strike would start today (Tuesday) and end on Thursday.

He stated that all members of the JAC across the federation will participate in the decision.

“All things being equal, we shall commence the strike tomorrow (Tuesday).”

“The JAC observed with disappointment that the Federal Government has completely failed to address any of the issue contained in the Memorandum of Understanding.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the issues for which the MoU was entered are as follows; inconsistencies in the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information Systems payment, non-payment of Earned Allowances, non-payment of arrears of minimum wage, delay in renegotiation of Federal Government, NASU and SSANU negotiation of 2009, as part of the agitations, the non-payment of retirement benefits of out-gone members, teaching staff usurping headships of non-teaching units in clear violation of conditions of service and establishment procedures.”
