National Assembly to Get Supplementary Budget Soon
Eko Hot Blog reports that plans to include funding for a new presidential jet in a forthcoming Supplementary Appropriation Bill are set for submission to the National Assembly.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hinted at the development during his address to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on May 29 at the National Assembly complex.
He informed lawmakers to anticipate the supplementary budget for the 2024 fiscal year.
“I will soon bring the 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill; that is just for your information,” President Tinubu stated during his speech.
According to THE NATION, Sources disclosed that the funds for the new jet would be part of this supplementary appropriation, with plans to offset some costs by selling three aircraft from the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF).

“To mitigate the substantial expense, the Presidency has initiated the sale of three jets to finance the acquisition of a new one for the President,” one source confirmed.
Further details on the government’s strategy to procure the jet will be outlined in the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, which is currently being prepared for transmission to the National Assembly ahead of its upcoming session next week.
Sources expressed optimism that the Assembly would expedite consideration of the Bill due to the urgency of the request.
The necessity for a new presidential jet has become more pressing due to the deteriorating condition of existing aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF).
President Tinubu has recently been using chartered aircraft for official travels, including attending the inauguration of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, where he flew on a private jet.
Additionally, Vice President Kashim Shettima recently cancelled a trip to attend a conference in the United States at the last minute due to issues with his official aircraft.
The inclusion of the presidential jet request in the Supplementary Appropriation Bill underscores the government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs while ensuring efficient and secure air travel for top officials.
