The National Council of State, presided over by president Muhammadu Buhari has approved N27,000 as the new minimum wage to be paid to Nigerian workers.
This was announced at the end of its meeting which held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, 22nd January, 2019.
Recall that the tripartite committee set up to work on the new minimum wage recommended N30,000.
The federal government, however, wanted to pay N24,000 while the state governors insisted they could not afford more than N22,500.
The Nigerian labour congress on its part, maintained that nothing short of N30,000 will be accepted as the new minimum wage.
The NLC further warned that it would embark on an indefinite strike action should the government approve any figure lower than N30,000.
