Nigeria’s national grid has experienced yet another collapse, marking the third incident in just one week.
The latest failure occurred early Saturday morning, plunging numerous states into complete darkness.
Data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) indicated that as of 9:20 AM today, the grid recorded zero megawatts (MW), exacerbating the ongoing power crisis that has long plagued the nation.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the repeated grid failures have severely strained an already fragile electricity supply system, leaving both businesses and households grappling with the repercussions of unreliable power.
This recent collapse follows two previous incidents earlier in the week, heightening concerns among citizens and raising questions about the effectiveness of the country’s power infrastructure.
Compounding the situation is the high cost and unavailability of fuel, which have hindered many Nigerians from seeking alternative power solutions.
These persistent outages come in the wake of remarks from Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, who stressed the urgent need for a more resilient power infrastructure.
During the unveiling of Hexing Livoltek, an electricity meter manufacturing company in Lekki, Lagos State, Adelabu emphasized that establishing regional or state-specific power grids could help eliminate the recurring collapses affecting the national grid.
He pointed out that, given the current deplorable state of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, grid failures appear almost inevitable.
Adelabu asserted that implementing multiple power grids across different regions would enhance stability and reliability in electricity supply, a strategy many stakeholders in the energy sector are advocating amid the ongoing challenges.
