Due to recent security concerns in Kano State and the widespread destruction that followed the EndBadGovernment protests, a planned national prayer session scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the national prayer, initially set for August 10 at Isyaka Rabi’u’s Mosque in Goron Dutse, Kano, was called off after intelligence reports raised concerns about potential disruptions.
Mubarak Ibrahim Lawan, the Coordinator of the National Prayer, announced the cancellation on Friday, August 9. He expressed deep regret over the decision, emphasizing that the event was intended to promote peace and stability in the nation.
Lawan explained that the decision was based on intelligence reports from Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhassan Muhammad. The reports indicated that the prayer session could be hijacked by “evil forces” seeking to incite chaos.
“We have been informed that some miscreants are planning to infiltrate the law-abiding worshippers and exploit the gathering for their own advantage,” Lawan stated.
“There are suspicions that these individuals might incite youths to engage in looting, shoplifting, and other disturbances, similar to what occurred on August 1, the day the national protest began.
“Therefore, we have decided to cancel the massive gathering scheduled for today, Friday, August 9, to prevent potential chaos in the state,” Lawan added.
He urged the public to remain in their local mosques and continue with their prayers from their current locations, stressing that the effectiveness of prayer is not limited by location.
“The prayer can be effective wherever we are, as Allah hears us wherever we are,” he said.
Lawan also cautioned the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities. He encouraged everyone to remain steadfast in their prayers for the country’s betterment, expressing hope that collective prayers would contribute to peace and stability in Nigeria.
