EKO HOT BLOG reports that death has been recorded at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State capital.
It was confirmed that a fight between Chukwuemeka Igboanugo, who was representing Imo State, and Prince Gaby Amagor from Anambra in the 86kg category was stopped after the former slumped.
The Imo indigene reportedly lost the fight in a knockout stage against his opponent, who was said to have given him a punch in the chin, and the referee had to stop the fight when he (Igboanugo) failed to recover.
“He was immediately taken out of the ring for medical treatment before being rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” a boxing official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Daily Trust on Tuesday (today).
