National Youth Games: Lagos Sports Commission Commends Athletes
The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has commended Team Lagos’ performance at the just concluded 5th National Youth Games (NYG) held in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Speaking at a reception held for the athletes at the Multipurpose Hall of Unilorin on Monday, Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh said in spite of stiff opposition, the Team Lagos was second on the Medals Table with a total of 72 medals consisting of 22Gold, 36Silver and 14Bronze.
He recalled that Team Lagos also came second in their first outing in 2018, adding that the State’s youthful and budding athletes now need to work harder during subsequent editions to move up to the first position.

The Chairman, therefore, expressed his appreciation to all those who have contributed in one way or the other to the successful participation of Team Lagos at the just-concluded event saying “There is so much to thank God for, especially for the success recorded by the athletes, contributions of all officials and journey mercies”.
“We could not have done this without the support we received from our Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who had ensured that we lacked nothing before, during and after the Games. The Governor has been so wonderful towards sports in Lagos since he assumed office on 29th May, 2019 and we are so much grateful for the moral and financial backing he has been given us”, he said.
The competition was won by Delta State with 41Gold, 32Silver and 31Bronze medals while Bayelsa State emerged third-place winners with 17Gold, 6Silver and 22Bronze medals.
