Hungary took the lead in the first half with Roland Sallai’s well-struck volley, putting the hosts in control.

However, the match took a dramatic turn when Van Dijk, the Dutch captain, was shown two yellow cards in quick succession.

The first booking came for dissent, and just three minutes later, he received a second for fouling Kevin Csoboth on the wing.

The red card, Van Dijk’s first in his 77 appearances for the national team, came late in the game.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Netherlands quickly responded, with Denzel Dumfries heading in Cody Gakpo’s free-kick to equalize.

Before his sending-off, Van Dijk had an impressive passing performance, completing 145 out of 152 passes—nearly as many as Hungary’s entire team, who completed 173 passes in total.
