Eko Hot Blog reports that Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has dismissed rumors that singer Portable was paid to perform at its 2023 Annual General Conference.
In an interview with PUNCH, NBA National Publicity Secretary Akorede Lawal said that Portable’s performance was part of the package of headline sponsor Obi Cubana’s Cubana Group.
Lawal explained that Cubana Group brought Portable because he is one of their products (Odogwu bitters) brand ambassadors and because being the headline sponsor came with bringing a guest artiste to perform at the ‘Unbarred concert’ that usually has lawyers irrespective of their status to close the conference.
He said that the NBA did not pay a dime to Portable for the concert and that the rumors of a walkout by lawyers were false.
Lawal said that the lawyers were supposed to attend the concert at the Friendship Centre, but they were later told to move to the ‘Unbarred concert’ at the Velodrome of the National Stadium in Abuja because the Friendship Centre had already been decorated to promote Cubana Group’s brands.
He said that the NBA appreciated the Cubana Group for sponsoring the event.
The conference, which was tagged “Getting it right”, marked the 63rd and it started on Friday, August 25 to Wednesday, August 30, 2023, with several activities earmarked for the occasion.
