NCC Extends Barring Of Glo Subscribers From Calling MTN Lines By 21 Days
Earlier reports suggested that the NCC would provide further information about the situation and advise Glo subscribers on the next steps.
Dr Aminu Maida, the new Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, emphasized that the primary concern is the consumer, and both parties have committed to resolving the issues within the extended 21-day period.
He also mentioned that the commission is working on creating a framework for a permanent solution to the issue of interconnect debt in the telecom industry, aiming to improve the quality of experience for telecommunications consumers and minimize the need for a double SIM regime in the country.
The dispute between MTN and Glo revolves around interconnect charges, with MTN briefly disconnecting Glo subscribers in 2019 over a debt of N4 billion.
A source close to Glo has stated that the telco has already made outstanding payments within the allowed window.
