NCC Parades Anti-Piracy Suspect, Seizes Valuables

Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC), paraded a suspect, Mr Aliu Olalekan, who was found watching DSTV channels for free without authorisation.

Mr Matthew Ojo, Director in the Lagos Directorate Office told Eko Hot Blog in Lagos, on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

He said that the offender used to watch DSTV channels for free on his Android phone via an app which he brought on google play store.

“This suspect then distribute the know-how to his telegram followers and on his blog with the aim of gaining more followers and viewership on his blog and makes more money through Google AdSense.

“The operation was based on the surveillance which had earlier been carried out by Multichoice team and verified by a copyright inspector, ” he said.

He added that the arrest was made in collaboration between a team of five copyright inspectors led by the Head of Enforcement Department, Mr Charles Amudipe.

Others as; a team of Multichoice Nigeria led by Mr Umar Ibrahim and Policemen from Lagos Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

Ojo said that the joint team conducted anti-piracy operation on the premises of the culprit at amukoko in Lagos.

According to him, the suspect was contacted on the phone by a member of the operation team on the disguise of patronizing him.

“The suspect came out to meet the caller, in the process of discussion he was apprehended.

“The offender took the team to his resident. The squad paraded his one-room apartment and recovers his laptop and phones used in perpetrating the ungodly act.

“He was arrested and brought to the copyright commission office for further investigation, ” he said.

Ojo said that, on getting to the commission office, the statement of the offender was taken and the inventory of items seized from him were all documented.

He said that investigation of the matter is still ongoing and if found guilty the suspect will be charged to court.
