A Public Health Consultant, Dr. Theresa Basssey has said that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is not really doing enough testing within the public domain to have actual cases of Covid-19.
Dr. Theresa Basssey reacted to soaring COVID-19 cases within the last few days.
She said; “There is still denial in the society as to the existence since it is not a disease that is immediately observable and recognizable”.
“As far as I am concern with the health of the public, the government is not doing enough testing even as there is widespread community transmission. We have no idea of the actual number so the cases will continue to rise as the asymptomatic in the society is becoming symptomatic”.
“Religious and Event centers that either refuse to advise their populace of the ongoing pandemic either to stay away for some time due to the increases in cases, downplay to give the populace a false sense of security, cannot be immediately isolated and managed”.
In a bit to reduce soaring cases of COVID-19, Dr.Theresa mentioned that the three arms of government should intensify the pillars of transmission blockage.
She also said that with the use of face coverings in public and social distancing being in place, the transmission rate will reduce.
Meanwhile, Ekohotblog reports that Nigeria’s total confirmed cases of coronavirus have risen to twenty-one thousand and three hundred and seventy-one (21,371) with seven thousand, three hundred and thirty-eight (7,338) people discharged and five hundred and thirty-three (533) deaths recorded so far.
