The Governor’s in the South-South region of Nigeria under the auspices of South-South Governors’ Forum has backed forensic auditing of the Niger Delta Development Commission and frowned at the crisis currently rocking the Agency.
In a statement released by its Chairman who equally doubles as Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the governors equally aligned with the on-going Probe of the Commission by the National Assembly.
The Forum maintained that its much confident that the National Assembly is operating with the ambits of its constitutional duties and urged all the parties concern in the probe to cooperate with the Ad-hoc Committee members to discharge their duties in a fair, transparent and equitable manner.
The governors equally expressed their desirous expectation to witness an NDDC that is up to its responsibilities by providing the needed infrastructural development that would guarantee the safety being of the people in the region. Hence, they pledge to provide their unalloyed support to any policy initiative that would make the dream a reality.
The forum further advised all combatants in the current crisis in the Agency to refrain from utterances and acts that would breach the peace and security of the region.
It equally frowned at the attempted arrest of the immediate past Acting Managing Director of the Commission, Ms. Joy Nunieh, maintaining that it was uncalled for, unnecessary and unwarranted as it called on the security agents to fully look into the incident with a view to reprimanding the perpetrators of the act.
