NDDC Scandal: Sustain Resource Control With Greater Guide – Ex NBA Boss Urge

The scandal rocking the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), should not in any way hamper the existence of the agency which sole aim is to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the region, says the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Plateau State, Barr. Ralph Monye.

Monye, who hailed from the region, said the federal government should look for a honest Nigerian to continue to pilot the affairs of the Commission with strict monitoring and greater guide.

Speaking to our correspondent on Sunday in Jos, the legal practitioner said the country cannot eliminate corruption from the fabrics and mentality of Nigerians even in a century, adding that the only way to sustain the war against corruption is to deploy strict monitoring mechanism that will check the system.

“We cannot scrape the NDDC because of some group of people who have chosen to sabotage the interest of the region. The region is ready for resources control, because one individual dose not make a region.

“That a group of people are working against the collective interest of the people of Niger Delta does not mean the region is not ready for resources control and development.

What the federal government should do is to remove and prosecute such corrupt people and look for someone who will do the right thing with greater supervision.

“Nigerians are corrupt and this can be seen in every facet of our daily lives. Even the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, was found to be corrupt, this means that corruption is a bane in Nigeria.

The people heading the NDDC who have chosen to be corrupt are simply following what is happening in the country.

Monye however said the corruption, financial recklessness and voodoo fetish oaths at the NDDC under the Interim Management Committee as unveiled at the recent public hearing of the Senate Adhoc Committee investigating corruption allegations should not be condoned any further.

“It is disheartening that these infractions, which came complete with evidentiary material, have the imprimatur of the Niger Delta Minister Chief Godswill Akpabio who, it seems, has engineered the whole fraud for his own selfish aggrandizement”, he said.
