NDLEA Busts Major Drug Syndicates in Abuja, Lagos, Rivers

  • Massive Operation carried out by NDLEA on Saturday
  • NDLEA Seizes Trailer, Vehicles, and Massive Drug Haul in Abuja
  • Trailer loaded with 2,217.6 kilograms of skunk intercepted

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) carried out a major operation on January 11, 2025, in Kagini, Kubwa, Abuja, where they intercepted a 40-foot trailer loaded with 2,217.6 kilograms of skunk, a type of cannabis.

The drugs were being moved into six vehicles at an abandoned fuel station for further distribution to northern states.

The vehicles included a Toyota Van, Toyota Camry, Toyota Sienna, JAC Hilux, Toyota Corolla, and a Vento Passat. A 42-year-old suspect, Isaac Monday Desmond, was arrested. The trailer had been loaded in Uzebba, Edo State.

Other Seizures and Arrests:

FCT, Nyanya: NDLEA arrested two suspects, Anthony Nnamdi (42) and Abba Ali (27), with 1.398kg of cocaine and materials for making crack cocaine.

Lagos: Officers stopped a shipment of 330 grams of cocaine hidden in face cream bottles headed to Australia.

Rivers State: A massive 338,200 bottles of codeine syrup worth over ₦1.19 billion were intercepted at Onne Port in Port Harcourt.

Lagos Shrine Raid: The leader of a drug syndicate, Bariu Aliu, also known as “Malo,” was arrested after a three-month search. Earlier, his accomplices were caught with 2,760kg of skunk at the Igunuko shrine in Ajah, Lagos, in October 2024.

Kano: Officers raided Gadar Tamburawa and seized 24.2kg of cannabis and 40,800 pills of opioids from a suspect, Habibu Ya’u (23).

 

Anti-Drug Awareness Efforts:

The NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, educating schools, worship centers, and communities. Activities included:

Lectures at schools in Lagos.

Talks with surrendered Boko Haram members in Borno.

Advocacy in Kano and Kebbi states.

Commendation:

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the efforts of officers for reducing drug supply and raising awareness across Nigeria.
