The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 48-year-old businessman Orizu Ifeanyi Arthur for attempting to smuggle 74 wraps of heroin and cocaine onboard an Air France flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to Paris, France.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, December 22, 2024, as Orizu attempted to pass through the boarding gate during the outward passenger clearance process.
Upon being requested to undergo a body scan, Orizu refused, citing a medical condition as the reason.
Suspicious of his refusal, NDLEA operatives promptly placed him under observation, and subsequent tests indicated that Orizu had ingested 74 wraps of heroin and cocaine said Femi BabaFemi, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy.
In a statement provided by Orizu Ifeanyi Arthur, the apprehended businessman claimed to own a shop at the Balogun Market in Lagos Island, where he sells school and travel bags.
He confessed that he had agreed to smuggle the illicit substances in exchange for a €3,000 payment upon successful delivery in Paris, France.
Orizu admitted to having traveled from Lagos to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja in an attempt to bypass detection.
This route was presumably chosen as he believed security measures might be less stringent in comparison to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
