  • Injured personnel were rushed to the Police Clinic and later transferred to the National Hospital for further treatment.

Three officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have been hospitalised after they were shot during a drug raid operation in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Thursday night.

The NDLEA team, acting on credible intelligence and days of surveillance, stormed an uncompleted building located around the NNPC area of Jahi. During the operation, they recovered a large quantity of illegal drugs and items including 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk – a strong type of cannabis – and five Android phones, believed to belong to suspects involved in drug trafficking.

However, as the officers were exiting the area with the seized drugs and items, they were ambushed and attacked by armed men who opened fire on them. In the sudden exchange of gunfire, three NDLEA personnel sustained serious gunshot injuries – one officer was shot in the ribs, while the other two suffered wounds to their back and leg respectively.

EkoHotBlog scooped that the injured officers were immediately taken to the Police Clinic in Garki, Area 1, where they received emergency treatment and were later transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for advanced medical care and monitoring.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), who is currently in Kano for official duties, expressed his deep concern over the attack. He personally reached out to the injured officers via telephone to offer words of encouragement and wished them a speedy recovery. He also thanked the medical teams at both the Police Clinic and the National Hospital for their quick and professional response.

Brig. Gen. Marwa assured that the NDLEA, in partnership with other security agencies, will leave no stone unturned in identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack.

He emphasised that such violent acts will not deter the agency from continuing its fight against drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.

Photos from the scene have been released, showing the bravery of the officers and the seriousness of the confrontation. The NDLEA continues to call for public support and cooperation in its mission to rid communities of harmful drugs and the dangers they bring.
