Ndume, Criticism And Price of Hypocrisy

Ndume, Criticism And The Price of Hypocrisy

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume is no doubt a vocal lawmaker right from his days as a member of House of Representatives.

Since 2003 that he was first elected as a lawmaker to the National Assembly, Ndume has displayed eloquence and occupied various leadership positions.

For 21 years, Ndume has not only benefitted from the financial largesse of the National Assembly, he has used his position to allegedly integrate his children into federal agencies.

Investigation reveals that his daughter works with the Central Bank of Nigeria and when the Governor of the CBN, Oluyemi Cardoso announced the moving of some offices to Lagos, Ndume was the first lawmaker to raise eyebrows because his daughter was being transferred to Lagos from Abuja.

At the time, it was gathered that Ndume sought audience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the CBN’s idea, perhaps to retain his daughter in Abuja but could not get the opportunity, which of course infuriated him.

Even when he had lobbied some senators to kick against the CBN position, Ndume, according to fillers could not succeed at the senate.

He said that the relocation of some CBN offices would have political consequences and alleged that some cabals were misadvising president Tinubu to divide the country.

To Ndume, there can be no two Federal Capital and since the Nigeria’s capital had been moved to Abuja, it is wrong to move the headquarters of CBN to Lagos.

While he made all moves to prevail on the senate, some of the senators noted that Ndume was fighting for his personal agenda, having owned up that his daughter actually works at CBN.

As matter of fact, a Senator from Kogi, Senator Sunday Karimi rejected Ndume’s plea on the floor of the red chambers, urging him to desist from using languages that could spark ethnic unrest.

No doubt, Ndume is a strong debater, the senate saw his recent outburst against President Tinubu more as hypocritical than criticism.

He has said on a national television that the president had been so evasive, adding that some cabals at the presidency had been blocking him from seeing the president.

To Ndume, Tinubu is no more in control but to the senate leadership, Ndume had goofed and should not remain as its Chief Whip. He is a leader in the present Tinubu administration who is trying to be more noble than the senate itself.

There is always a limit to criticism, especially when the one that is criticising is a beneficiary of what he is condemning.

Ndume criticises almost every government in which he has served even when he is a member of the ruling party, which to many of his colleagues is hypocrisy, rather than criticism.

To a lawyer and public affairs analyst, Daniel Bwala, Senator Ndume has shown how hypocritical he is, having being a beneficiary of the government himself.

Bwala said that Ndume has failed to build a legacy of mentorship for his constituents despite that he has spent 21 years in the National Assembly.

Following his outburst, in which he castigated Tinubu for lacking the right policy to solve the problems of insecurity and food scarcity, the All Progressives Congress Caucus in the senate sought his removal as Chief Whip.

Senator Tahir Mungono from Borno North has since been unanimously elected by the senate as the Chief Whip.
