The National Economic Council (NEC) has set a deadline of September 9 for four states to submit their reports on the establishment of state police. All 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are required to provide comprehensive reports for review.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that at the conclusion of the NEC meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Acting Oyo State Governor Abdulraheem Lawal confirmed that all states must submit their reports on state police for NEC’s consideration.

The initiative is in response to ongoing security challenges across various regions.

Lawal emphasized the importance of enhancing national security and stated that states failing to meet the September 9 deadline will be bound by the decisions of NEC. Four states, including Adamawa, Kwara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and the FCT, have yet to submit their reports. One state claims to have already submitted its report.

Additionally, the Federal Government has allocated ₦3 billion in relief funds to support states affected by severe flooding, particularly in the Northeast, where critical infrastructure has been damaged.
