NECO Clears Payment Delays, Pays Full Allowances to 2024 SSCE Examiners
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has confirmed the full payment of allowances to all 72,138 examiners it hired as ad-hoc staff for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
In response to rumors suggesting that the council intentionally withheld payments, NECO clarified that delays were caused by incorrect bank details submitted by some examiners, temporarily disrupting the payment process.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO explained that payments began on October 4, 2024, following a structured bank-by-bank schedule designed to ensure proper reconciliation and prevent complications.

“NECO has successfully completed the payment of examiners’ allowances as of today, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in line with the council’s payment plan,” the statement read.
The council also addressed the claims circulating on social media, calling them “incorrect and false.” It further clarified that payment issues stemmed from incorrect bank details, but these have now been resolved, and all 24 banks involved in the process have been cleared.
