The Nigeria Education Group (NEG), led by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has announced a series of ambitious reforms aimed at invigorating the nation’s education sector.

Dr. Alausa praised the alignment of NEG meetings with the National Economic and Social Research Institute (NESRI), stating that this strategic move will strengthen national unity in education reform.

Emphasizing innovation, coordination, and inclusivity, Dr. Alausa said, “We are ushering in a new era for education in Nigeria, creating a system that empowers every learner and supports national development.”

Mr. Abel Olumiyiwa Enitan, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, underlined the importance of adopting best practices in education, particularly in Private Schools Education (PSE). He stressed the need to carefully consider place, time, and purpose when shaping the future for younger generations.

The role of human rights and social responsibility in education was also a key topic of discussion, with stakeholders acknowledging the impact of societal values on the education landscape and student well-being.

Updates were provided on the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Committee, established in partnership with UNESCO, the Ministry of Youth Development, and other organizations.

With 1,061 individuals trained thus far and more initiatives planned, the committee aims to enhance technical and vocational training nationwide.

UNESCO representative and co-chair, Mr. Manish Joshi, highlighted the importance of civic responsibility and stakeholder coordination, commending the collaboration between the National Councils on Education, NESRI, and other partners, and emphasizing the need for synergy in achieving common educational goals.

The National Education Group meeting marked a significant milestone in aligning Nigeria’s education agenda, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen partnerships among education agencies.

Dr. Alausa reiterated the strategic value of aligning regular NEG meetings with NESRI to drive a more unified and effective education policy framework.

Major NEG subcommittees presented progress reports, with a strong focus on data digitalization, out-of-school initiatives, quality education, teacher training, school safety, and education funding.
