NEMA Urges FG To Introduce Disaster Management In School Curriculum

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has enjoined the federal government to introduce Disaster Management courses into the curriculum of universities and polytechnics o help build their ability and capacity of future disaster managers.
This is just as the agency called on Nigerians to adhere strictly to the directives of the Federal Ministry of Health and National Center for Disease Control on prevention of Corona Virus, Lassa fever and other epidemic disease.
NEMA head of Imo/Abia operations office, Mr. Evans Ugoh made the proposal during his address at a joint disaster stakeholders meeting organized by NEMA on Monday, where he said it is pertinent to introduce disaster management subjects in school curriculum as a necessary precaution following the rising incidences of disaster in the country.
He said: “If disaster management is part of universities and polytechnics degree and diploma courses, it would help in facilitating efficiency in disaster management.
On Corona Virus, the NEMA official said federal government through the health ministry and the Nigerian Center for Disease Control are doing their best to prevent the spread of the virus, but warned that Nigerians must adhere to medical directives.
He commended the Director General of NEMA for facilitating seminars and workshops at the zonal and state level to enhance efficiency in disaster management.
