EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Director-General of the NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, made the disclosure during the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop held in Abuja, where stakeholders reviewed processes aimed at strengthening accountability and improving the integrity of mobilisation.
According to Nafiu, the new requirement is part of broader efforts to curb certificate fraud and reinforce credibility within Nigeria’s higher education and youth service systems. He explained that the policy aligns with a Federal Government directive mandating all prospective corps members to obtain the NERD compliance certificate before being cleared for service.
He urged Corps Producing Institutions across the country to properly sensitise graduating students on the new requirement, stressing the need for strict adherence to avoid disruptions in the mobilisation process.
The NYSC boss also emphasised that the responsibility of safeguarding the integrity of mobilisation should not rest solely on the scheme. He called on regulatory agencies, security institutions, and relevant ministries to collaborate more effectively through policy support, training, and enforcement mechanisms.
He further noted that stronger institutional coordination would help streamline the transition from tertiary education to national service while improving transparency and reducing bottlenecks faced by prospective corps members.

Nafiu added that all stakeholders involved in the mobilisation chain must work towards building a system that is transparent, accountable, and efficient, in line with ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening national service administration.
