National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), says it will develop a master plan on environmental sanitation and waste management in Adamawa State.

Hamid said the master plan would facilitate implementation of effective environmental sanitation and waste management programmes in the state.
“We are trying to develop a workable master plan to address the current environmental challenges in Adamawa.
“When you look at Adamawa; especially the Yola metropolis, we have poor sanitation and waste control, Abattoir is one of the contributing factors with unpleasant odour emanating from it,’’ he said.
Hamid explained that the state government could not do it alone, hence the need for closer collaboration with other stakeholders including the private sector.
“We just started operating in the state and NESREA cannot be everywhere.’’
He noted that one of the mandates of the Agency was to ensure environmental education and awareness as well enforcement of environmental laws.
According to him, the Agency would embark on visit to the markets, motor parks and abattoirs to ensure proper sanitation in the state.
The Coordinator lamented that poor sanitation and indiscriminate dumping of waste on water ways caused flooding in the society.
