Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the White House next week to meet with US President Donald Trump.
The meeting, scheduled for February 4, marks Netanyahu as the first foreign leader to be invited to the White House during Trump’s second term.
EDITOR’S PICKS
Although the White House confirmed the meeting, the exact date and time are still being finalized.
This meeting takes place amid a six-week ceasefire in Gaza, following an agreement between Israel and Hamas to halt the ongoing conflict.
Trump claimed credit for securing the ceasefire and the hostage release deal, which he described as “epic.”
The two leaders will also discuss Trump’s controversial proposal, rejected by Egypt and Jordan, to resettle Palestinians from Gaza in neighbouring countries.
This idea has been supported by right-wing members of Netanyahu’s government but strongly opposed by others.
The ceasefire follows a brutal attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, and an Israeli counteroffensive that has resulted in significant loss of life on both sides.
