#FreeSowore: Nigerians Explode As Police Rearrest Popular Activist

The Nigerian Police Force has again arrested the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore after he led a #CrossoverWithProtest procession in Abuja, the nation’s capital on New Year’s eve.

Sowore in the company of other protesters were reportedly at Gudu junction in Abuja when police vans numbering up to seven closed in on them and arrested them.

Eko Hot Blog gathers that the arrested protesters including Sowore were said to have been taken to Abbatoir Police Station where they are being detained.

Sowore had on Thursday called on Nigerians to join a crossover protest to register their grievances against the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, Nigerians have begun calling for the immediate release of the former Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and all other protesters, describing the arrest as an abuse on human rights.

The #FreeSowore campaign has generated over 10,000 tweets as at 12pm on Friday. Read some of the reactions culled from twitter:
