New Basic Education Curriculum to Begin in Nigeria by January 2025
The Federal Ministry of Education announced on Monday that the new curriculum for basic education will be implemented in schools nationwide starting January 2025.
During a stakeholders meeting in Abuja on the implementation of the new curriculum, Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman revealed that the updated curriculum for senior secondary education will begin in September 2025.

Professor Mamman emphasized that the new curriculum aims to tackle the ongoing learning crisis and enhance employability by introducing skills acquisition programs that equip students with essential 21st-century skills.
He mentioned that the next three months will be dedicated to preparatory activities, including the development of teacher guides for implementing the new curriculum.

Dr. Garba Gandu, the Director of Curriculum at the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), further explained that the updated curriculum will provide necessary skills and training to ensure global competitiveness. The new curriculum will feature 15 newly introduced trade subjects for basic education.
These subjects will include basic digital literacy, such as information technology, as well as vocational entrepreneurship skills like building and construction, plumbing, and tiling.
