New Lagos HoS Officially Assumes Office, Makes Promises To Public Servants

Eko Hot Blog reports that Mr. Bode Agoro, on Tuesday, officially assumed office as the 22nd Head of Service after the voluntary resignation of the immediate past Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola from the Lagos State Public Service.

His assumption of office came with a promise to continue to ensure good welfare support and conducive work environment for all public servants across the state.

In his maiden address to government workers at the ceremony organised to formally welcome him onboard, he thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity given to him to serve as the 22nd Head of Service, just as he equally appreciated his predecessor, Muri-Okunola, for the honour.

He maintained that he shall toe the line of his predecessor while in office, which is to ensure the continuous welfare, well-being and provision of a good working environment for the entire workforce, adding that he will also make sure that all the Public Servants under the state government continue to benefit from the dividend of democracy.

“Welfare of Public Servants is a priority because things are very hard and difficult for everyone, we need to make life better for everyone by ensuring that we cascade down adequate welfare to Public Servants,” Agoro said.

“Welfare to me is two things, personal and professional, professional is constant training and retraining of staff, because if you do not train the civil servants, who are the backbone of the government, you are creating a problem in the system.”

The HoS stressed that he intends to lay much emphasis on the training, welfare and conducive working environment for all the civil servants in the state.

Agoro, however, implored all the workforce to cooperate and liaise with their respective Permanent Secretaries on problematic issues they are having in the discharge of their statutory duties instead of keeping it to themselves.

He advised them not to rest on their oars by ensuring that they work hard and continue to raise the bar, just as he solicited their support and cooperation for him to have a successful tenure in his new appointment.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola appreciated everyone for their resilience and commitment to taking the State Public Service to greater heights.
