The visit, which took place three months after Abisogun’s coronation as a whitecap chief, was a symbolic gesture of respect and gratitude towards the monarch, who plays a pivotal role in the installation of such traditional leaders in Lagos.
Accompanied by a large contingent from the Agoro family, the new Ojon of Lagos sought blessings and well-wishes from the Oba and his council of chiefs during the ceremonial visit.
In a fatherly display, Oba Akiolu offered prayers and counsel to the newly appointed chief, advising him on proper conduct with fellow chiefs and the palace.
The monarch emphasized the importance of remaining connected to the people, urging Abisogun not to distance himself after his elevation but rather to stay aware of their successes and challenges.
During the event, Akiolu took the opportunity to address persistent rumors and claims that he was demanding a staggering sum of N50 million to install vacant chieftaincy positions. The monarch vehemently refuted these allegations, stating that Abisogun’s recent coronation as Ojon of Lagos served as a living testament that such rumors were unfounded and spread by those seeking to tarnish his name.
In a call for unity and patience, Oba Akiolu urged Nigerians to maintain faith in the nation and its leaders, expressing confidence that conditions would improve with time. “We should just be patient as things will surely take shape. We should love God and not be covetous. All ye children of Agoro, you shall prosper, but always speak the truth because that is the ultimate,” the monarch advised.
