New Year: Babangida Urges Nigerians To Remain Resolute


A former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtrd) has appealed to Nigerians not let the myriad of challenges facing the country dampen their resolve or dash their hopes of a better 2021.

Ekohotblog reports that Babangida made the plea during an interview with Channels Television on New Year Eve.

He urged the citizenry to continue to exercise patience and remain steadfast in the face of overwhelming adversity, noting that everything will soon come to an end.

Babangida averred that the COVID-19 pandemic shook the the entire world to its very root, Nigeria included, adding that it had affected all other spheres of governance.

He said the country also had to grapple with the twin note of economic downturn and insecurity

He admonished Nigerians to comply with COVID-19 guidelines and advisories as provided by those in charge of health in the country.

“I wish all of us well and want us to remain steady, to remain resolute and have patience because everything that has a beginning [will surely] have an end,” the former Head of State said.

He noted that once everyone worked hard with uniformity of purpose towards achieving the country’s goals and objectives, “we’ll have a pleasant and good 2021”

“So I take this opportunity to wish all of us Nigerians the best of 2021 and to encourage Nigerians to continue to assist government in solving all the perennial problems associated with governance

“2020 has been a very challenging period not to this country alone but through out the world. There is Covid-19, economic situations and also insecurity.

“2020 has been a challenging year in terms of health, security and economy. We remain grateful to God and we’ll get through these problems…. Coronavirus is real. So I appeal to people to go along with what the health providers are advising us,” he added.
