Newly Promoted NSCDC Officer Opatola Slumps, Dies After Receiving Salary

A newly promoted officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified only as Opatola, has reportedly slumped and died shortly after receiving his salary.

According to sources, Opatola was attached to the Iwo division and collapsed in the division’s restroom on Monday, just a short time after starting his duties.

One anonymous source within the command shared that Opatola, who had been promoted and decorated the previous week, arrived at work in good health before his untimely death.

The source stated, “We all received the alert about our salaries at nearly the same time as the deceased, and we were all disappointed. He seemed visibly worried about the situation.

Opatola was in good spirits when he came to work and attended to a few cases. Afterward, he excused himself to use the restroom. When some colleagues went to check on him after a few minutes of silence, they found him on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.”

Another colleague expressed grief over the incident: “It is heartbreaking that a newly promoted officer like Opatola slumped and died just days after his promotion. We suspect that the disappointment regarding his salary may have worsened an underlying health issue, leading to his death.”

Attempts to reach Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Osun Command of NSCDC, for comment were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls or text messages at the time of this report.
