2. Osinbajo meets APC govs, to declare for presidency shortly

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is currently hosting the All Progressives Congress, seeking their support for his presidential ambition ahead of next month’s Presidential primary.

Impeccable sources at the Presidential Villa told The PUNCH that the Vice-President is hosting the governors to the breaking of Ramadan fast (Iftar).

“The Iftar dinner being hosted by the VP is just commencing. APC governors, especially those from the North, are already gathered. The VP is now going to reveal his intention to run for President. He will then make it public to all Nigerians,” a source at the Villa said.

3. Gunmen raze Imo justice commissioner’s country home

Again, gunmen have razed the country home of the Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney General of Imo State, Cyprian Akaolisa.

They also razed his father’s house in Obibi, Awo-Idemili, Orsu Local Government Area of the state.

Gunmen had in 2021 burnt a part of the commissioner’s house.

But in the latest attack, the invaders completely burnt the commissioner’s house and that of his aged father.

4. Welcome to Otedola’s family, DJ Cuppy congratulates Mr Eazi, Temi

London-based Nigerian Disk Jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has congratulated Nigerian singer, Oluwatosin Ajibade, known better as Mr Eazi, after the latter proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Temi Otedola.

Both Florence and Temi are daughters of Nigerian billionaire, Femi Otedola.

The PUNCH reports that Temi had earlier shared the moments Mr Eazi proposed in a video clip shared on Sunday on her Twitter handle without a caption.

Reacting to the engagement on Sunday, Cuppy, who is studying for her second Master’s degree programme at Oxford University, thanked Mr Eazi for “bringing such joy to our family”.

5. 2023: Adewale emerges Ondo SDP Chairman, says APC, PDP made Nigeria poorer, backward since 1999

The newly elected Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party, Mr Stephen Adewale, weekend lamented that the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria made the country poorer and backward since 1999.

Adewale said this while addressing the party delegates during the state congress of the party, held in Akure, the state capital.

Also elected during the Congress include members of the state working committee of the party.

The new state chairman appealed to party members “to work in unity to oust the ruling APC in the forthcoming general election in 2023.

Ghanaian actress and social media influencer, Efia Odo has hit Ghanain men below the belt by declaring that their Nigerian counterparts are better than them when it comes to relationships and taking care of a woman.

9. Electoral Act: Appeal Court restrains Malami, others from frustrating appeal

The Court of Appeal has restrained the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and others from taking steps to frustrate the hearing of an appeal against a judgment mandating the AGF to delete Section 84 (12) from the amended Electoral Act.

A three-member panel of the court, led by Justice Rita Nosakhare Pemu, in a ruling, granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) permission to appeal, as an interested party, against the March 18, 2022 judgment by Justice Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court in Umuahia.

The Appeal Court, in the ruling delivered by Owerri division on April 7, 2022, an enrolled copy of which The Nation sighted in Abuja on Sunday, also granted accelerated hearing in the appeal.

10. Police arrest suspected armed robber in Ogun

The Police Command in Ogun on Sunday said it had arrested a suspected armed robber, Isikilu Moses, while carrying out an operation in Joju area in Sango-Ota.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement issued to newsmen in Ota, Ogun, that the suspect was arrested on April 8.

Oyeyemi explained that the suspect was arrested following a distress call received at Sango-Ota Divisional Headquarters.

11. Arewa Youths urge Felix Idiga to join 2023 presidential race

Northern Youths under the aegis of Arewa Youth Council (AYC) have urged the chairman of Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria, GOGAN, Chief Felix Idiga, to throw his hat into the ring and contest for presidential election as the 2023 general elections draw near.

AYC chairman, Ambassador Dogo Shagari stated this in a press conference held in Abuja at the weekend, for youths from across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, commending Idiga for his supports toward the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, describing it as a pay-back time.

Ambassador Shagari said they have carefully considered the antecedent and track-records of Chief Idiga and found out that he is eminently qualified to lead Nigeria out of its present state to a better level.

12. Man City, Liverpool settle for draw in title decider

Manchester City and Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw on Sunday evening in a match dubbed the title decider.

Manchester City drew the first blood through De Burnye in the first half before Jota cancelled out the lead minutes later.

Gabriel Jesus restored the lead shortly before second half before Sadio Mane equalized again in the 46th minutes.

13. Osun 2022: Expect more dividends of democracy, if re-elected – Oyetola

Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun has assured the people of the state of more dividends of democracy, if re-elected in the July 16 governorship election.

Oyetola gave the assurance during an engagement programme organised by the state’s Civic Engagement Office for members of the state chapter of Palm kernel Association, on Sunday in Osogbo.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said that various developmental projects his administration had achieved since inception were tips of the iceberg.

Oyetola said that his administration had performed well in the areas of health, education, poverty alleviation, infrastructure, youth empowerment, free monthly food for vulnerable people, prompt payment of salaries, pensions, among others.

14. Biden, Modi to meet virtually Monday over Ukraine

US President Joe Biden will meet virtually Monday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, weeks after Biden said India has been “shaky” in its response to the invasion of Ukraine.

Biden will use the talks to continue “close consultations on the consequences of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and mitigating its destabilizing impact on global food supply and commodity markets,” his spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said in a statement Sunday.

The two leaders failed to reach a joint condemnation of the Russian invasion when they last spoke in early March at a meeting of the so-called “Quad” alliance, which includes the United States, India, Australia and Japan.

India has so far refused to join the votes condemning Moscow at the United Nations General Assembly, while saying it was deeply disturbed by the alleged killings of civilians by Russian troops in the town of Bucha in Ukraine.

15. NDLEA intercepts 101 parcels of cocaine at Lagos airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 101 parcels of cocaine concealed in eight children duvets at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

This is contained in a statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in Abuja.

Babafemi said the illicit drug was brought into the country from Brazil by a 52-year-old Akudirinwa Uchenna, who hailed from Oru East Local Government area of Imo.

He said the suspect was arrested on April 9 at the D-Arrival Hall of the Lagos airport upon his return from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha aboard Qatar Airline flight.

He added that the 101 parcels of the class A drug with a gross weight of 13.2 kilogram were recovered from the suspect’s bag.
