1. Osun chief kicks over suspension, N3,000 salary delay

Akogun of Edemonsi, Chief Awowale Olaniyi, in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State, suspended by Edigbon of Edemonsi, Oba Samuel Olaniyan, has accused the monarch of unjustly removing him.

Olaniyi also accused the monarch of stopping his N3,000 monthly salary since he was unjustly suspended five months ago.

Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, Olaniyi then called on Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to immediately intervene and stop the monarch from further punishing him without justification.

He said, “I started having problems with Oba Olaniyan since I refused to go and seize people’s land for him. A panel he put in place investigated me.

2. Insecurity: Kaduna bishops back Northern elders, ask Buhari to resign

The Anglican Bishop of Kaduna Diocese, Timothy Yahaya, and his Catholic counterpart, Mathew Manoso Ndagoso, on Sunday, backed the Northern Elders Forum in their call for the resignation of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) over the spate of insecurity in the country.

The PUNCH had reported that the NEF on Tuesday asked Buhari to resign for allegedly failing to secure the country.

The forum made the demand in a statement by its spokesperson, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. It said it was disappointing that after nearly seven years of being in office, Buhari still had no answers to security challenges across the country.

The statement had read in part, “The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari does not appear to have answers to the challenges of security to which we are exposed.

3. Bayern Munich one win from 10th straight Bundesliga title

Bayern Munich can secure a 10th straight Bundesliga title next weekend after they bounced back from their Champions League exit with a 3-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday.

An own goal by Bielefeld defender Jacob Laursen and strikes by Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala saw Bayern move nine points clear.

“A bit of frustration was released after we were knocked out,” Gnabry told DAZN.

Bayern returned to winning ways five days after conceding a last-gasp equaliser at home to Villarreal to crash out of the Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate defeat in the quarter-finals.

4. FA Cup: Chelsea sink Palace to face Liverpool in final

Thomas Tuchel praised Chelsea’s focus and composure as they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on Sunday to earn an FA Cup final showdown with quadruple chasers Liverpool.

Tuchel’s side had to work hard to break Palace’s stubborn resistance in the semi-final at Wembley, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s ferocious strike put them on course for a third successive FA Cup final appearance.

Mason Mount put the result beyond doubt with a fine finish of his own, ensuring Chelsea of a date with Liverpool in the final at Wembley on May 14.

It will be Chelsea’s fifth FA Cup final in the last six years as they look to make amends for losing in the showpiece against Arsenal and Leicester in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

5. Nigerians‘ll be Bello’s godfather when elected President – Hafsat Abiola

Director-General, Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Organisation, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, has said Nigerians of all walks of life would play the godfather role to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state when he is elected President of Nigeria in the 2023 election.

This is even as the daughter of Moshood Kolawale Abiola, presumed winner of the June 12 Presidential election, said in a free, fair and credible contest, Yahaya Bello has what it takes to beat other Presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the sole ticket.

Abiola-Costello stated Sunday while addressing a world press conference in Abuja on the aspiration of  Governor Bello and his chances at the delegate election.

6. I never knew Osinachi’s husband was a fake pastor – Late singer’s mother

Finally, Mrs Oriaku Madu, the mother of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, who was allegedly killed by her husband following domestic violence, has opened up, saying that Nwachukwu deceived the family into allowing him to marry her daughter by claiming he was a pastor.

She said she never knew that Nwachukwu was only a fake pastor as his conducts and attitude towards both the wife and the her family betrayed his claims.

According to Osinachi’s mother, the son in-law was so mean that he never allowed her to come for ‘omugwo’ ( baby sitting) in all four children that her daughter gave birth to.

7. Withdraw pardon for Dariye, Nyame, uphold oath of office, SERAP tells Buhari

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to use his “good offices to urgently review and withdraw the pardon granted to former governors of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, and Taraba State, Rev Jolly Nyame who are serving jail terms for corruption.”

SERAP is also urging him to “propose constitutional amendment to the National Assembly to reform the provisions on the exercise of the prerogative of mercy to make the provisions more transparent, and consistent and compatible with Nigeria’s international anti-corruption obligations.”

Mr Dariye and Mr Nyame were jailed for stealing N1.16bn and N1.6bn, respectively. However, the National Council of State last week endorsed the pardon of Mr Dariye, Mr Nyame and 157 others serving jail terms following the recommendations of the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

8. Easter Retreat: lmmorality angers God – Muoka

Mouka spoke on Sunday at the Church’s 2022 Easter Retreat  with the theme: “Convenant of Peace and Blessing”.

He said the theme was to revive faithful hope in God and reunite people with the creator.

According to him, immorality in the world may compel God to destroy humanity if people do not repent from evil.

9. I’m sad my sisters are still in captivity, says rescued Chibok girl Grace Dauda

The Bring Back Our Girls Movement, Lagos, Saturday, held its weekly sit-out at  Falomo, Lagos, to commemorate the eight anniversary of the abduction of over 200 students  of the Government College, Chibok, Borno State by the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

One of the liberated girls, Grace Dauda, was there to share her experience.

Looking pretty and well-kept, Dauda recalled her experience in the three years she spent in captivity saying: “Imagine yourself living in the forest, no freedom and fighter jets hovering around. No one would want that. Please we need these young women back. We can’t fold our hands and do nothing, thereby losing them forever.

10. Five key ‘takeaways’ from Kukah’s Easter message to Buhari

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over his administration’s inability to tackle insecurity and corruption in Nigeria.

The Nation reports his Easter message last year irked the presidency, which accused him of distorting facts about the insurgency and general insecurity.

But Kukah in his 2022 Easter message titled: ‘To mend a broken nation: The Easter metaphor’ said every aspect of life in Nigeria has been destroyed while corruption is enthroned.

11. Police rescue four, foil kidnap attack in Kaduna

The Police have successfully foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued four victims unhurt in Sabon Gari local government area of Kaduna State.

Kaduna Police spokesman ASP Muhammad Jalige, in a statement on Sunday, said: “On the 15th April, 2022 at about 2340hrs, the Kaduna Police Command received a distress call from an anonymous caller through DPO Daanmagaji Zaria that unspecified number of suspected terrorists dressed in military gear have invaded Gabari Community Samaru of Sabon Gari LGA Kaduna, shot berserkly and in the process whisked away four (4) victims into the forest”.

He said the Command immediately mobilised operational assets with men of Operation Puff Adder II and local vigilantes and laid ambush on the bandits’ expected route.

12. OAU MBA student: Falana takes over prosecution of Adedoyin, 6 staff

Human Rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has taken over prosecution of the mysterious death of a Master student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Timothy Adegoke.

Adegoke died on November 5th 2021 mysteriously at Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile Ife owned by Chief Rahmon Adedoyin. Adedoyin with other six staff facing trial before Justice Oyebola Ojo on 11 counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, forgery, misdemeanour among others.

A statement by Osun Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwafemi Akande, explained the Chamber of Femi Falana SAN had applied for fiat to take over the process.

13. Ex-Governor Yari, Senator Marafa Defect To PDP

Former Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari Abubakar, Senator Kabiru Garba Mafara and other top APC members have finally defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Gusau on Sunday, the PDP chairman, Colonel Bala Mande (rtd) said, the party has received Yari, Marafa and other top APC members who have joined the party together with their supporters.

14. State Police Remain Solution To Killings —ASOMBEN

WORRIED by the recent killings in Nigeria, especially in the northern part of the country, the Secretary-General Association of Middle Belt Ethnic Nationalities (ASOMBEN), Reverend James Pam, has tasked the Federal Government to revisit the issue of state police and for the interim ordered the military to flush out terrorist elements from Nigeria forests.

According to him, the spate of killings of innocent souls has become unbearable and denting the image of the country.

He said there was no way the economy of the country could pick up under the current chaotic situation.

“Security of Nigeria should be paramount. This government is not ready to fight the menace head-on. I don’t want to believe that our military and other security agencies cannot handle this situation. What is lacking is political will.

15. Makinde Goes After Looters Of Oyo Treasury, Vows To Recover Stolen Funds

OYO State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared that there would be no place to hide for looters of the state’s funds.

The governor, who was speaking on a Splash 105.5 FM programme, State Affairs, anchored by Edmund Obilo, said that his administration remains determined to retrieve every kobo of the state’s resources stolen by some members of the immediate past administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Governor Makinde noted that his administration has been able to bring about a turnaround in the infrastructure of the state and other key sectors because it blocked loopholes and wastages in resources.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying that his government is on the track of some chieftains of the APC in the state, who used a certain company to siphon between N12 and N15billion of the state’s money.

16. Agrolog, Mastercard Foundation Empower 60,000 Farmers In Ginger Production

In collaboration with Mastercard Foundation, Agrolog Limited has empowered 60,000 smallholder farmers along the ginger value chain to boost productivity and enhance entrepreneurial farming with women farmers.

Since 2018, Agrolog has invested in developing the ginger value chain by using its internal resources to support an out-grower scheme, reaching an aggregate of 10,000 farmers.

This collaborative effort is focused on providing immediate material, capacity, and structural support to 60,000 smallholder farmers out of the over 1.2 million vulnerable indigenous Ginger farming communities of Kaduna State, spanning 12 local government areas.

As a result of the first year’s harvest, Agrolog embarked on vigorous training of women within the project community to help them process some of their harvests into ginger juice, powder, oil, spices and syrup to create new markets within and outside these communities.
