1. Buhari approves Police Academy, Wudil, as degree-awarding institution
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday in Abuja, assented to a bill which seeks to establish the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, as a degree-awarding institution to provide academic and professional training.
According to a statement signed late Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the Police Academy Bill is one of two bills the President assented to, which were recently passed by the National Assembly.
2. Bauchi gov gifts district heads, council chairmen exotic cars
Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has gifted 58 exotic cars to district heads and local government chairmen across the 20 LGAs of the state.
The governor gave 38 cars to the district heads across the six emirates of the state while the 20 local government chairmen got one each.
The Ministry of Local Government Affairs got two Toyota Hilux while six Toyota Hilux cars were given to local government area offices.
Speaking while distributing the cars, the governor said the gesture was a response to last year’s request of the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwan Suleiman, for the government to assist the district heads with vehicles to enhance their activities.
3. Police arrest man for killing, dismembering Osun housewife
A suspected ritualist, identified simply as Toogun, has reportedly been arrested by the police for allegedly killing a housewife, Modinat Basiru.
Confirming the arrest, the Field Commandant, Osun Amotekun Corps, Amitolu Shittu, said a child of the deceased had reported at the Corps office in Ileogbo, Ayedire Local Government Area, that Basiru entered into the house of the suspect and did not come out afterwards.
Shittu said his men immediately swung into action and visited Oke Osun, where the suspect was residing, but he was not found in the house.
4. Why I’m contesting Imo East senatorial seat – Akeredolu’s wife
The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, said that she would be running for the Imo East Senatorial District election in 2023 to lead the leadership conversation on behalf of her people.
Akeredolu stated this during an interaction with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo Council, on Friday, in Owerri.
She said that her decision to run for the Senate, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, stemmed from the neglect of the senatorial district by successive administrations and legislators.

Renowned Nigerian musician, Sister Osinachi Nwachukwu has been confirmed dead.
The Ekwueme singer was confirmed dead today, as it was gathered that she has been on life support for the past two months.
Sister Sinach who is known with her angelic voice is generally known for the track, Ekwueme, and afterwards the sad news of her demise has gone viral, many people have reacted to it.

6. Kogi buries poisoned cows, gives 7 days off beef consumption
The Kogi Government on Friday directed the burial of the carcasses of some of the 20 poisoned cows discovered on Wednesday in Lokoja.
The governmen also directed residents of Lokoja to stay off consumption of beef for seven days not to fall victim of some of the poisoned meat allegedly already in the market.
“What the governmen is able to bury today is a good number of the affected cows and not all of them,” an official said.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi Connand, Mr Suleiman Mafara, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja.
7. Edo electoral commission suspends local government election
The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) on Friday suspended the conduct of the local government elections scheduled for April 19, 2022.
A statement signed by Emmanuel Abebe on behalf of the Chairman of EDSIEC said the suspension of the local council elections was due to the restraining order by the Federal High Court, Abuja on the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
8. Energy crisis: Electricity national grid collapses again
The electricity national grid has collapsed again leaving the country without public power supply.
The latest collapse, the third in less than a month, came despite assurances by the Federal Government that it has taken steps to address the problem.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) who manages the grid had last month said it had developed an alternative ways of managing the grid.
TCN had stated that its “in-house engineers have deployed a stop-gap solution to improve grid monitoring and acquisition of data from remote stations (power stations and transmission substations) to the National Control Centre. This was achieved by utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) solution, and Virtual Private Network (VPN) by using various Internet Service Providers (ISP).

The coalition of concerned citizens says what Nigeria needs is a government of national unity spearheaded by selfless men of values, courage, competence and character to heal wounds.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the coalition includes social movements, civil society, the New Fabian Society of the Concerned Professionals, the NCFRONT and the Third Force Cluster of Political Parties.
The Convener, Prof. Pat. Utomi, a former presidential candidate and political economist, at a news conference on the state of the nation on Friday in Lagos, said there was need to form a consensus and national unity approach to move the nation forward.
10. Tension as Chinese stop police from sealing factory
There was tension in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State yesterday after some Chinese nationals prevented the police from sealing their company despite a court order to that effect.
The company, located at 194, Marwa Close, Ijegun Water Site, Satellite Town, is accused of producing fake AKT light bulbs.
A businessman, Ugochukwu Amadi, sued the company before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing it of producing and importing fake AKT light bulbs.
11. Will Smith gets 10-year ban from attending Oscars
The Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has voted to ban embattled Hollywood star, Will Smith from all Academy events, including the Oscars for 10 years.
The decision was part of the consequences for Smith after he slapped comedian Chris Rock during the 94th Oscars telecast.
Smith slapped comedian and actor, Rock, for making jokes about his wife during the live broadcast live of the Oscars award ceremony.
12. BREAKING: I’ve made 2,000 millionaires in Kogi, says Gov Bello
Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello on Friday said his administration had turned no fewer than 2,000 persons in Kogi into millionaires.
He spoke in Abuja at the ongoing “Second Annual GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political and Crime Correspondents”.
Bello also expressed the wish to appoint Nigeria’s first female Vice President, if he gets his party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 elections and its approval to choose his running mate.

13. Onne Customs facilitates N109 billion export in Q1
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area II Command Onne Port, said it facilitated export cargoes worth N109 billion in the first quarter of 2022.
Disclosing this in a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Ifeoma Onuigbo Ojekwu, Comptroller Auwal Mohammed, said the total tonnage of the exports stood at 320,245.34 metric tonnes with a free onboard value of N109 trillion.
He said the exported products included sesame seed, ginger, hibiscus, flourite ore, lead ore, palm kernel shell, cotton, float glass, aluminium, ingot, urea, columbite ore, cashew nuts, tin ore and a printed sack.
Mohammed said the command also generated N58 billion from the importation of raw materials and finished goods in the same period.
14. Blackout on Lagos International Airport road raises security concerns
Perennial blackout on the major access road into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, has raised security concerns for both travellers and residents along the busy artery.
Without functional streetlights in the last couple of weeks, the access routes in and out of the flagship port of entry have been in pitch darkness with noticeable hideouts for criminals to waylay travellers.
The Guardian learnt that the recently built expressway has been without power from Oshodi and Iyana-Isolo axis inwards the airport in the last four weeks.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) which owns the airport and manages its appurtenances have regretted the blackout, blaming it on wiring issues and the high cost of alternative source of power given the erratic supplies by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
15. Ekiti Police parade suspected kidnapper of FUOYE student, six others
The Ekiti State Police Command, yesterday, paraded seven suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a student of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Akomolafe Tolulope Patience, and other crimes ranging from, cultism, murder, burglary and impersonation.
Addressing journalists at the state police command, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu said the suspects were arrested through tip off from members of the public and intensified efforts by men of the command.
Giving details about the arrests, Abutu said “On April 4, 2022, at about 17:30hrs, the Command received a distress call that some suspected kidnappers were operating along Ikole-Ekiti/Ijesa-Isu-Ekiti Road.
“The Command, upon the receipt of the information, deployed a team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to the scene for possible arrest of the suspects.”
16. Gunmen kill two, injure others in Plateau IDP camp
Gunmen have killed two persons and injured, at least, three others at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Rantis, a community in Gashish District I, Barkin Ladi Local Council of Plateau State.
About six gunmen, who stormed the camp on three motorcycles, reportedly carried out the attack on Wednesday night.
The IDPs were said to have completed work for the day and were about leaving the site when the gunmen struck.
Two of the IDPs, Dalyop Boyi and Gyang Jugu, were killed while three others, including Pastor Samson Boyi, Dahwol Jam and Pam Boyi sustained gunshot injuries.
