1. Dariye, Nyame’s pardon’ll embolden political thieves –SANs, CSOs
Days after the Council of State recommended presidential pardon for two former governors convicted of corruption and 157 other convicts, civil society organisations and lawyers have continued to react to the decision.
They told Sunday PUNCH in separate interviews that the pardon was a disincentive to the anti-corruption fight and that it would encourage people to steal. They also berated the President for the action, saying it was a political move, especially as the two former governors, jailed for stealing N2.7bn, are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike argued that the corruption fight of the Federal Government is shrouded in ‘’despicable politics that puts Nigeria up for ridicule before the international community.’’
Wike made the observation on Saturday when he visited Niger State as part of his ongoing consultation with PDP delegates, according to a statement issued by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

Sunday PUNCH recalls that there had been pressure on the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to resign following his declaration to contest the position of the President on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

4. Build your lives, rather than depend on men, Wasila Coded advises women
Actress and filmmaker, Adebimpe Akintunde, aka Wasila Coded, has urged women to build their lives rather than investing emotions in men.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actress said, “There is a popular adage that says, ‘If you want a woman to treat you like a king, you have to treat her like a queen’. Also, if a woman wants to be treated like a queen, she needs to treat her partner like a king too. My advice to women, either married or unmarried, is that instead of investing your emotions in the opposite sex, you should build up your life. So that wherever you find yourself in the future, picking up will not be an issue for you. Women stay in abusive marriages because of the fear of starting over. They ask, ‘How would I take care of the kids’? But if such women had been able to work on themselves and are empowered, they would have the courage to walk away or take a break. I keep telling people that marriage is overrated. If a woman is not married, does that mean she won’t do well in life? These days, one does not have to be married before one can have children. There are a lot of successful women who are not married, but look for ways to have children.”
