1. 2023 presidency: Why Jonathan hasn’t announced decision yet -Support group
Citizens Network for Peace and Development has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan has yet to make his decision on the 2023 presidential election known because he is still consulting.
The human rights organisation while calling on Jonathan to contest said on Monday that the ex-president may contest the election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The national coordinator of CNPD, Raphael Okorie, made this known during a press conference in Abuja.
Okorie said, “The entire country, men, women, East, North, South and West are unanimous for Jonathan to contest the 2023 presidential election.
2. 2023: Who are you consulting, Adebanjo knocks Jonathan
As the agitation for South-East Presidency assumed a front burner on Monday with socio-political organisations insisting that it was the turn of the Igbo to produce the next president in 2023, Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, lambasted former President Goodluck Jonathan, for mulling the idea of contesting the presidency during next year’s election.
Among the organisation which supported Igbo presidency were Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pan-Niger Delta Forum and Middle Belt Forum. They reiterated their calls for the presidency to be micro zoned to the South-East for equity, justice and fairness in 2023.
They were unanimous that if the political class and the retired military generals could concede the presidency to the South-West in 1999, the same approach could be adopted and micro-zone it to the South-East.
The MBF, Afenifere, PANDEF and other groups bared their minds during the Greater Nigeria Conference which held in Abuja, organized by leaders and friends of the South East geo-political zone, with the theme, “Together we can.”

The United States President Joe Biden has congratulated the newly re-elected President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
Biden congratulated Macron on Monday after a first attempt to call him failed because the French leader was out celebrating his victory.
The White House noted in a statement noted that during the call, Biden underscored the close and enduring relations between the United States and France, describing the country as “our oldest ally based on shared democratic values, economic ties, and security cooperation.”
“President Biden conveyed his readiness to continue working closely with President Macron on our shared global priorities,” the White House added.

4. EFCC nabs syndicate member who duped First Class Kwara Monarch N33.3m
The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Fidelis Poor, a member of a syndicate who allegedly connived to dupe a first Class Traditional Ruler in Kwara State, His Royal Highness Idris Sero Abubakar, to the tune of N33,399,999.00 (Thirty-Three Million, Three Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Nine Naira).
Fidelis, 30, who hails from Stwue in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State alongside other suspects (still at large) allegedly conspired to swindle the monarch under the guise that he had a container of goods meant to be used for the development of Okuta community due be cleared at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
HRH Idris Abubakar, who is the Emir of Okuta in the Baruten Local Government Area of the State, was a former member of the House of Representatives.
According to the statement issued by the Head, Media and Publicity of the Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, the monarch had petitioned EFCC after several efforts to recover his money or get the goods failed.
5. Sit-at-home: Confusion as Police, Civil Defence Corps clash in Owerri
The usual but controversial sit-at-home order in the Eastern States, took a different slant today, as armed policemen stormed the State Headquarters of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, shooting sporadically.
Some residents of Okigwe Road and Works Layout, who alerted Vanguard about the development, said that they have scampered into the safety of their rooms.
Speaking to Vanguard on phone, Chuka (surname withheld) said: “There is serious shooting going on in our area now. We have all scampered into the safety of our rooms. From where I am hiding with members of my family, I can’t hazard a guess on the people shooting.
6. FG concessions bitumen, appoints PwC Transaction Adviser
THE Federal Government, on Monday, disclosed concessioning of bitumen blocks to prospective local and international companies in order to reduce importation of the commodity.
This was made known by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, during a press conference on ‘Concession of the Delineated Nigerian Bitumen Blocks’.
Adegbite, who pointed out that with the huge deposits of bitumen in the country, which ranks Nigeria as sixth largest in terms of deposit of the commodity in the world, there is no other time than now to harness this nature’s gift to Nigeria.

7. 2023: It’d be disservice, injustice not to contest – Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said he would be betraying Nigerians if he doesn’t contest the 2023 presidency.
Osinbajo, who spoke in Akure while addressing delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, said he believed the hand of God was upon him.
The APC presidential aspirant said it would amount to a disservice to Nigerians if the expertise he has garnered in the last seven years ended up in retirement and writing memoirs
He said: “Opportunity of public service is the most valuable thing. It comes once in a while. It is a special privilege to be called upon to serve. Our country needs service. That is what will get our country out of doldrums.
8. Tinubu condoles with Uzodinma, families over Imo refinery disaster
A former Governor of Lagos State, Sen. Bola Tinubu, has commiserated with Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo over the recent unfortunate illegal refinery disaster in the state.
Tinubu in a statement on Monday in Lagos, also sympathised with the people of Imo over the loss of over 100 lives caused by an explosion at an illegal crude oil refining station in Abaezi Forest, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential hopeful said: “I join all Nigerians in mourning the loss of over 100 precious lives caused by an explosion at an illegal crude oil refining station in Abaezi forest, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo.

9. Detention Of Priest: Ebonyi Government, Catholic Church Disagree Over Alleged Executive Order
The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki and Ebonyi State Government on Monday disagreed over an alleged Executive Order preventing any court in the state from entertaining matters relating to the Effium crisis in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state which has claimed many lives, with properties worth billions of naira destroyed.
While the Catholic Church, through its Chancellor, Fr Matthew Opoke, said the alleged Executive Order was in place in the state which prevented the release of one of its priests, Rev Fr Timothy Ngwuta, who was arrested and imprisoned for alleged promotion of the protracted Effium/Ezza Effium communal war, the state government through its Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Cletus Ofoke dismissed the church’s claim.
Ngwuta was arrested by the Police on December 11, 2021 and detained for 12 days and was released on bail as a result of ill health arising from his alleged torture by security agents.
He was rearrested on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 and arraigned on March 11, 2021 for alleged kidnapping and murder and remanded at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre.
10. Abiodun’s Emergence For Second Term Will Be A Walkover ― APC Chieftain
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde has said that it is becoming clearer by the day that the second term ambition of Abiodun will be a walkover.
Armstrong hinged his stance on what he described as the various giant strides of Abiodun in the road and infrastructural development, education, agric, housing, health, employment creation among others.
Speaking in Iperu-Remo just after Dapo Abiodun Mandate disclosed the raising of the sum of N50 million to purchase the needed forms for the second term bid of the Ogun governor, Armstrong said it had become expedient to continue on the path of unprecedented development of the state beyond 2023.
Armstrong added that the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA) will leave no stone unturned to mobilise at least 10,000 votes for the governor in each of the 20 local governments of the state.
