1. US Vice President Kamala Harris tests positive for COVID-19
US Vice President Kamala Harris tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday but is asymptomatic and not considered a current close contact of President Joe Biden, the White House said.
“Today, Vice President Harris tested positive for Covid-19 on rapid and PCR tests. She has exhibited no symptoms, will isolate and continue to work from the vice president’s residence,” said Harris’ press secretary, Kirsten Allen.
“She has not been a close contact to the president or first lady due to their respective recent travel schedules,” Allen said, adding that Harris would “return to the White House when she tests negative.”
Biden spoke with Harris by phone, and he “wanted to check in and make sure she has everything she needs as she quarantines at home,” a White House statement said.
Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Biden, 79, tested negative for Covid on Monday.
Harris, 57, is the latest in a rash of cases sweeping through the Washington elite, with multiple members of Congress also announcing positive tests on Tuesday.
2. Voter registration: INEC faults Uzodimma, says suspension stands
The Independent National Electoral Commission has clarified claims by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State that it had resumed the Continuous Voter Registration in places where the exercise was earlier suspended in Imo State.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, gave the clarification in a statement on Tuesday, saying the position of the commission has not changed.
The commission had suspended the CVR exercise in all the 54 additional centres created to facilitate the registration of voters across Imo State following the attack on its staff in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, and reports of insecurity in other parts of the state.
Following the suspension, Uzodinma had on Sunday claimed during a church service at the Government House Chapel, Owerri that INEC had agreed to lift the suspension, adding that the CVR would commence on Monday, April 25, 2022.
3. Man City beat Real Madrid 4-3 in UCL semi-final first leg
Manchester City beat record 13-time winners Real Madrid 4-3 in an epic Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday, with a Karim Benzema brace keeping the Spanish giants’ hopes alive going into the return.
Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva all netted for City at the Etihad Stadium with Benzema scoring twice — including a penalty — and Vinicius also on target for Madrid.
The teams will meet in Madrid in the second leg next Wednesday, May 4. Liverpool meet Villarreal in the other semi-final.

4. No boat mishap in Lagos, says LASWA
Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA has urged members of the public to disregard a trending video on social media about a purported boat mishap said to have occurred on Tuesday, in the Falomo area of Lagos.
The video showed a capsized boat with some divers and emergency operators rescuing people at the five Cowries Terminal.
The video has sent panic to residents especially boat users in the state.
However, Damilola Emmanuel, LASWA General Manager, in a statement, said the incident in the purported boat mishap video was actually a routine safety simulation exercise being carried out by the agency.
5. 2023: I’ve capacity to fix Nigeria’s challenges – Peter Obi
Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says he has the capacity to fix the political and socioeconomic challenges of Nigeria.
Obi made the declaration at a meeting with the PDP stakeholders in Oyo State, on Tuesday at the party Secretariat in Ibadan.
Obi, accompanied by his Special Adviser, Tony Obinujwu and a former Presidential Aide, Dr Doyin Okupe, was received by the party leaders led by the State Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro.
Obi said Nigerians needed to make informed decision that would produce a president with capacity to fix the socioeconomic and political challenges bedevilling the country.
6. Presidential aspirant, Garba, proposes change of name for ‘Nigeria
Presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has asked that ‘Nigeria’ as a country should change her name.
He took to his Twitter page to raise his concerns on the name change.
He said: ”How about we rebrand this country, properly federalize it and rename it to “The Nigritian Federation” or simply NIGRITIA.
“Afterall, Nigritia is our ancient name before Lady Lugard renamed it Nigeria.

7. TCN, DisCos, GenCos trade blames over poor power supply
Who should be blamed for erratic power supply in the country? The blame game continued yesterday among the three major players in the electricity sector.
The players are: Generation Companies (GenCos), Distribution Companies (DisCos) and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The GenCos said they have capacity to generate more than 4,500 megawatts (mw) of electricity but handicapped because the DisCos have been rejecting load allocation.
To the distribution companies, the GenCos have been economical with the truth. They promised to make their position public in a statement today.
8. PDP ticket: Atiku, Saraki, Tambuwal, Obi, 13 others for screening Friday
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will on Friday begin the screening of the 17 aspirants jostling for the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 election.
A former Senate President, Chief David Mark, is the chairman of a nine-member committee that will screen the aspirants.
Slated for screening are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
Also to be screened are; a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Pius Anyim; Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed; Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike; and Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

9. Ataga’s Murder: Court Dismisses Chidinma’s Objection
A Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has dismissed Chidinma Ojukwu’s counsel’s objection to cross-examine a bank staff over late Mr Usifo Ataga’s bank statements tendered as exhibits.
Justice Yetunde Adesanya, however, admitted the bank statements as exhibits.
Ojukwu is standing trial for the alleged murder of Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV.
She is charged with murder, stealing and forgery alongside her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and one Adedapo Quadri.
The prosecution counsel, Mrs A. O Oluwafemi, told the court that the prosecution had a representative from Ataga’s bank who was in court based on a subpoena to tender the account document of the deceased
10. Gbajabiamila Seeks UK Parliament’s Collaboration On Insecurity, Parliamentary Diplomacy, Others
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday, solicited the support of the United Kingdom’s Parliament in the area of insecurity, Parliamentary diplomacy, political and economic prosperity in Nigeria.
Hon Gbajabiamila said Nigeria remains a key player in global affairs and that its Parliament plays an important role in addressing issues through legislation.
He spoke during a visit to the Speaker of the UK’s House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, in Westminster, saying the Nigerian House had used Parliamentary diplomacy at different times and it worked.
“We intend to work in close collaboration with your Parliament,” Hon Gbajabiamila noted, adding that Nigeria and the UK have “a rich history between them.”
