NGO Canvasses Budget Line For WASH Activities In Gombe

Gombe State chapter of the Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN) has called on the Gombe State House of Assembly to create a budget line for Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in the state.

Mal. Sani Jauro, Team Leader of the group, who made the call in Gombe on Tuesday during an advocacy visit to GSHA, also stressed the need for the budget line to cover implementation of the project in the state, Ekohotblog gathered.

He said there was need to support the WASH unit in the state to develop a standard Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework for the state and local governments.

so as to monitor WASH implementation at all levels.

The group were also at various ministries including, the state Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, as well as the Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, and other line ministries, to ensure synergy in the fight against open defecation.

In his response, Malam Abubakar Luggerawo, Speaker GSHA, said the Assembly was willing to work with anybody or group that wants the development of the state, while assuring them of his support.

He said oversight function is part of the primary assignment of the legislature, and because the Assembly is an institution that represents the common and collective interests of the citizens, they will support any meaningful project.
