NGO Sues Lagos State Govt Over Olusosun Dump Site
Lagos State government has been dragged before a Federal High Court in Lagos by a Nongovernmental organisation, Laws and Rights Awareness Initiative over Olusosun dump site.
The NGO asked the court to compel Lagos State government to either shutdown or relocate the dump site.
The group in its suit labeled FHC/L/CS/1726/19, cited the threat the dump site posed as motive behind the suit.
The plaintiff is seeking “a mandatory injunction compelling the respondents to immediately shut down and/or relocate the dumpsite/landfill at Olusosun, Ojota, Lagos.”
Also the plaintiff’s attorney Olumide Babalola, lamented that the refusal of Lagos State to shut down or relocate the Olusosun dumpsite amounted to a violation of sections 33 and 34 of the Nigerian constitution as well as Articles 16 and 24 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.
