Opinion: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Oby Ezekwesili, Aisha Yesufu: These Southern Women

Each one of them has a specific identification that augments their uniqueness, character, strength of will, decency, and determination to who they are and what they stand for.

The first woman, first African to become the Director General of World Trade organization has a peculiar, consistent way she ties her head gear which is an easy identification to her race and a personal trademark. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, an international development expert, was a Minister in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, serving under, no fewer than two different presidents, in the Economic Ministry and Foreign Affairs.

Obiageli Ezekwesili popularly known as Oby Ezekwesili, was once a Federal Minister in Nigeria during the second term of President Olusegun Obasanjo and co-founder of Transparency International and the advocate for #BringBackOurGirls Campaign when 276 girls in a boarding school in Chibok were abducted by the extremist group, Boko Haram in April 2017. She was one of those whose campaign drew international attention on the issue of the abduction of those school girls.  Unique to her is her low cut hair and white coral bead around her neck.

Standing tall in hijab with her right fist raised, the picture of Aisha Yesufu during the #EndSars and police brutality protest took the internet by storm. Aisha Yesufu stood tall and condemned the brutality of the special anti-robbery squad of the Nigeria police.

All these women have done notable, praiseworthy things which will always be a point of reference and give a place for every Nigeria, Africa, and most especially, every girl, women that the sky is the starting point to the achievement of dreams and realization of potentials.

These women all have some admirable underlying virtues which are purpose, vision, persistence, boldness, and drive. They have and will continue to make us all proud because their positive involvement in their endeavors has put the country in a positive limelight on the international scene.
